Forest Cover Estimation in Ireland

John Devaney (a forest ecologist formerly at the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) in University College Cork (UCC) and now at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Centre (SERC) in Washington DC) has just published an excellent paper in the open access (freely available for everybody to view) scientific journal PLOS One on forest cover estimation in Ireland. The paper focuses on a comparative analysis of different forest cover assessment methodologies and was carried out in collaboration with Brian Barrett (formerly at the School of Geography and Archaeology in UCC and now at the School of Geographical and Earth Sciences at the University of Glasgow), Frank Barrett and John Redmond (Forest Service) and John O`Halloran (BEES, UCC).

The authors gratefully acknowledge the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for funding and supporting this research.
